How The Zone Diet Works
The Zone diet is a weight loss plan that pays close attention to food intake and physical activity to achieve results. It is a lifestyle-changing program to get people to shed pounds and become physically fit. The main aspect of this diet program is the food plan developed by the biochemist named Barry Sears.
The theory behind the diet focuses on the impact of carbohydrates on the body’s insulin levels. Eating too many carbs causes the body’s blood sugar levels to spike, which causes the body to produce insulin, a hormone that reduces blood sugar levels by causing the sugar to be stored as fat. It is believed that by eating the right foods, blood sugar levels can be regulated to keep insulin levels in “the zone,” a range where the body is supposed to burn more fat and stop storing excessive fat.
The plan balances protein and carbohydrate consumption in a 3:4 ratio, meaning 30% of your calories will come from protein and 40% from carbohydrates (another 30% typically comes from fat). It is crucial to keep track of calories on this diet, with most meals not exceeding five hundred calories each and snacks no more than one hundred calories each.
Under the diet program, you eat five times a day (three meals and two snacks), never going more than five hours without consuming food. If you sleep eight hours per night, this means taking breakfast within one hour of waking, taking lunch within five hours of breakfast, a snack within five hours of your lunch, dinner within two to three hours of your snack, and a late night snack just before going to sleep.
The majority of foods eaten on the Zone diet program include lean cuts of meat, such as chicken or fish and other sources of protein, lots of fruits and vegetables, and a small amount of carbs. Breads, cereals, potatoes, sugar, and rice are the types of carb rich foods that dieters are to avoid eating, but can enjoy occasionally. Dieters must also stop eating pre-packaged foods and high sodium foods.
Physical health is another important aspect of the Zone diet. The plan suggests moderate intensity physical activity for thirty minutes a day, six days per week. Exercise is supposed to enhance the effectiveness of the Zone program. Other things that are supposed to increase the effectiveness of the diet include taking vitamins and nutritional supplements.
The Zone plan is effective for many people trying to lose weight, but it takes a big commitment. The reason why this diet and most other diets don’t work is because many dieters give up before they are able to see results. Many people struggle to stick with any type of diet plan because of food cravings, uncontrollable appetites or eating habits, or a simple lack the motivation to lose weight.
