Several strategies have been utilized to help individuals to gain self confidence. Even though any of these methods can be effective, two alternative therapies that are not difficult to learn and quite useful for a majority of people who use them are confidence hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming or NLP. Classic hypnotherapy (using post-hypnotic suggestions) can be very effective. It is most useful for people who are suggestible and easily led. This technique usually is ineffective for people who tend to be methodical or are critical thinkers.

Those described by this latter group, Ericksonian hypnotherapy or NLP strategies are much more successful. These strategies are superb for successfully communicating with the unconscious mind, which is the seat of our emotions. This occurs because the resistance typically offered by analytical persons to suggestiveness is bypassed.

A tool offered through that individuals are typically taught to build self confidence is called anchoring. Anchoring is a normal experience. For example, if you encounter an old song, and experience sensations of deja vu, this is because the subconscious connected the sensations from a past time, with the notes of the song was playing at the time. Therefore, hearing the music once more, the subconscious triggers the emotions related to it. So the song anchors those emotions.

Through anchoring, individuals are coached to recall a memory that caused them to experience the feelings of confidence. As they remember and re-experience those sensations, they are coached to touch two fingers together. The subconscious then relates the recollections of confidence with this behavior. If the person contends that he or she has no recollection of having self-confidence, they is assisted to construct a fantasy in which they do see themselves being confident, and then anchor that perception of confidence.

When the client has anchored the emotions of confidence, in those situations that necessitate self-confidence, touching the fingers together triggers memories of confidence for use in the present situation.

A very useful NLP too called the “Flash” may be utilized to immediately exchange stressful emotions, which are typically related to a lack of self-confidence. Because of this method, the person diverts the mental images that create negative emotions, to trigger mental pictures to generate a good emotion.

For example, the person directs the subconscious to employ the visual pictures that are triggering emotions of uncertainty, as triggers for visual pictures that cause feelings of confidence. Our mental images trigger our emotions.

Every person has goals, and desires. Many people are able to strive toward these to accomplish their dreams. Some, however permit their low self-confidence to overpower them. Even though NLP does not help every person, the overwhelming majority of clients who have used this technique have reported astonishing success in gaining self confidence. This strategy is in fact, better than alternative techniques for the majority of people.

Summary: People who do not have self-confidence often find it difficult to succeed in most areas of their lives. Several components cause people to experience social phobias or feelings of incompetence. Several treatment approaches can help clients to build self-confidence. NLP has often been reported to be highly successful by a large percentage of individuals who have tried this technique.
